Picket in support of arrested graffitists in Minsk (photo)

A picket is support of the recently detained graffitists was held in Minsk on August 20. It was Maksim Pyakarski’s (political prisoner) birthday. About 25 people took part in the action, the BCD press service reports. The picket was held near the Russian Theatre, opposite detention centre #1 in Valadarski Street.
Representatives of the steering committee for the creation of the Belarusian Christian Democratic Party headed by Pavel Sevyarynets, Young Christian Democrats headed by Maryna Homich, United Civil Party headed by Anatol Lyabedzka, Young Belarus headed by Artur Finkevich, solidarity movement Razam, Committee for Solidarity with Ukraine, BPF Party and others organizations took part in the picket.
The Investigation Committee has accused two ‘graffitists’ (Maksim Pyakarski and Vadzim Zharomski ) of group hooliganism. Human rights defenders consider the young men to be political prisoners.
The young people got arrested for the graffiti ‘Belarus must be Belarusian’ painted over a billboard that used to have images of policemen on it.
