Plane with contraband cigarettes from Belarus crashes in Ukraine (video)
The pilot has died. He was probably heading for Poland.
An Antonov 2 light plane transporting contraband Belarusian cigarettes crashed near the village of Promin in Volyn in western Ukraqine on the night of March 26. The pilot died in the crash.
The plane fell down on a road and damaged the roof of a house, a fence and power grid lines.
The airplane took off an improvised runway situated not far from the crash site. Already airborne, the pilot suddenly decided to return and land but dipped and fell down, witnesses say.
Local villagers were aware about the plane smuggling contraband. Previously, the plane was used to disperse fertilizers on fields of the local collective farm. The cigarettes were meant for Poland, the locals said.
