Police raid United Civil Party office in Babrujsk
Three police officers came to the local office of the opposition United Civil Party in the evening of March 9. A party activist Halina Smirnova told Radio Svaboda the men did not produce a search warrant or any other official documents.
According to Smirnova, the officers seized copies of the officially registered newspaper Novy Cas (New Times) as well as Young Democrats' newsletters.
They also grabbed the bag from the hands of Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) activist Taisiya Kabanchuk who happened to come to the office at the time of the raid. The officers found BCD's promotion materials. According to Kabanchuk, only after 15 minutes of hustling one of the policemen produced his ID - Lt Col Rudzko.
A 'non-freeloaders march' is scheduled to take place on March 12 in Babrujsk. Street protests with this title have become a headache for the Belarusian authorities in the past several weeks.
