Polish Senate demands to release Kazulin
“The Polish Senate demands to release a Belarusian member of the opposition and a former presidential candidate Aliaksandar Kazulin”.
This is a passage from the resolution adopted by the Polish Senate on Wednesday, February 21. Let me remind you that after the presidential election 2006 Aliaksandar Kazulin was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment according to the article “misdemeanour”.
The initiator of the resolution, the head of the department of foreign affaires Stefan Neselowski explains how the resolution may influence Belarusian authorities:
(Stefan Neselowski) “The fact that the resolution has been adopted is a moral signal which is also very important. This is a political signal too: good relations with the European Union and Poland are very important for Mr. Lukashenka now. To reach them most easily Belarusian authorities could release Aliaksandar Kazulin and other political prisoners.
That is why we consider the resolution to be able to exert influence on Belarus”.
Stefan Neselowski noted that the resolution was only the start of struggle for Belarusian political prisoners. The main purpose of Polish senators is to raise the question in the Council of Europe. Iryna Kazulina, the political prisoner’s wife, was also present at the meeting of the Senate.
A group of Belarusian political refugees gathered near the building of the Senate holding Belarusian white-red-white flags and posters with information about Kazulin who has already spent 333 days behind bars:
“We organized a picket in acknowledgement of the meeting. We wanted to thank Polish senators for their tries to help establish democracy in Belarus”.
The web page www.swabodukazulinu.pl has been created in support of Aliaksandar Kazulin. It is possible to send a letter to Lukashenka and to demand to release Kazulin. More than 300 letters have already been sent. The page was made by the initiative from Warsaw - “Volnaya Belarus”.
