Poroshenko presents his peace plan to Merkel
The plan may be used as the basis for negotiations of the contact group in Minsk on September 5.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko described the plan to Angela Merkel by phone on Wednesday, BelaPAN reports.
Poroshenko is hoping that all the sides agree to cease fire. He ‘supported Russia’s readiness to realize a joint peace plan’, his press service reports. The plan ‘should contain joint obligations – bilateral ceasefire, monitoring and verification by the OSCE, withdrawal of all foreign troops from Ukraine, creation of a buffer border zone and release of all refugees and Ukrainian citizens illegally delivered to the Russian territory’, Poroshenko thinks.
Poroshenko and Merkel coordinated their positions before the NATO summit appointed for September 4 and 5 in Newport.
