Prague refuses to accept Victor Yanukovich with official visit
Prague authorities will not organize the Ukrainian President’s visit.
Mayor Tomáš Hudeček would not like to see Yanukovcih in the city, he said. “It would be absurd for President Yanukovich to land in Václav Havel Airport,” Radio Liberty quotes the Mayor of Prague. If the Ukrainian President decides to come anyway, the city authorities will not take any measures that are usually taken during state leaders’ visits. In particular, Yanukovich will not be invited to the the traditional appointment in the City Hall.
A few dozen Czech civil activists, poets, filmmakers and officials are also against Yanukovich’s visit to Prague.
Hudeček would like to send 500 thousand Czech crowns to Maidan protesters instead of organizing the visit.
Yanukovich’s official visit to the Czech Republic is appointed for April 2014. He was invited there by the Czech President. A mini summit dedicated to the Eastern Partnership programme is supposed to be held during his visit.
