Radioactive pearls seized at Belarus-Poland border
Border guards on August 16 detained a DAF vehicle at the Berastavitsa border post at the Belarus-Poland border. The vehicle was on its way from Poland to Russia, carrying a batch of natural pearls and precious stones. Belapan news agency reports the cargo had radioactive levels six times higher than normal. The border guards sealed off the vehicle at a remote parking site. The authorities are deciding if the cargo could be cleared via the territory of Belarus.
The cargo with higher radiation levels can be cleared, if the carrier has documents, proving this is a natural radiation. Apparently, such documents were not available.
