EU condemns detentions at "silent actions"
EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Catherine Ashton made such a statement on July 16.
She expressed her sorrow with regard to the brutal actions of the Belarusian authorities against the "silent protesters", BelaPAN reports. Mrs. Ashton noted that those were common Belarusian citizens, who demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the situation in the country peacefully and legally.
It is also said in the EU's statement that many of the protesters suffered from the brutal behaviour of the police, were fined or illegally sentenced to administrative detention.
