Government receives amnesty draft
It has been prepared by the penalty department of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
BelaPAN refers to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and informs that about 2800 people may be released. More than seven thousand convicts will have their terms reduced by one year.
If the draft is approved, minors, pregnant women, women and lonely man having minor children, invalids of the 1st and 2nd disability groups, oncological patients, Chernobyl liquidators, Chernobyl victims and war veterans will be released in July.
The Ministry has also stressed that the amnesty will not be applied to prisoners severely violating the penalty regime. Let us remind you that the majority of Belarusian political prisoners fall under this category.
