Russia limits food transit from Belarus

Russia is making transit rules for Belarus stricter. The import control has been imposed this morning, on November 24. Belarus is suspected of foreign export from the states blacklisted by Russia.

All trucks including transit trucks will be checked at the Russian border even if they have already been checked by Belarusian customs officers. Products of animal origin will start being checked the same way soon, RBK reports.

According to the Russian agricultural inspectorate press service, “the monitoring conducted to prevent illegal food supplies from Belarus has already revealed over 11 tons of banned agricultural products made in the EU that were said to be exported form Belarus to Kazakhstan”. However, the goods ‘lingered’ in Russia. It is over 10% of all the food import from Belarus.

European fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy products and fish are mostly re-exported by Belarus.
