Russia urges CIS finance ministers to meet in Moscow

Russia has called on CIS finance ministers to meet in Moscow on October 21 to discuss measures in response to a global financial crisis, RIA Novosti reported with reference to a Russian government source. Russia is ready to offer help to its neighbors on acceptable conditions, the source is quoted as saying. He added that the Russian government is discussing terms and conditions of a loan for Belarus.

The official said that apart from Belarus, Russia has offered loans to China and Cuba. Belarus asked Russia for a $2-billion stabilization loan. Belarusian Finance Minister Andrey Kharkavets explained on October 6 that Belarus needs the loan to cushion effects of the global crisis.
