Russian commandos assault Ukrainian marines’ battalion in Crimea
The assault in Feodosia was backed by helicopters and APCs. The Russian flag has already been hoisted in the military unit.
Feodosia marines refused to lay down arms earlier, Ukrainian mass media report. They were going to leave Crimea with all their weapons and military equipment by trucks and APCs with Ukrainian flags. However, they had not received any evacuation order. The Ukrainian soldiers promised not to lay down arms and shoot to kill in case of an assault.
The assault started at about 3.30 or 4 a.m., UNIAN reports. The Russian special mission units were supported by helicopters. They used missiles but did not shoot to kill, espreso.tv reports. The Russians were also backed up by APCs that were shooting too, some sources report.
The approaches to the Ukrainian military unit are blocked now. The barracks are full of smoke. Three URALs with tied up Ukrainian marines left the territory. Some of the soldiers were wounded.
