Six students from Nigeria suspected of having Ebola in Belarus
Some were hospitalized as far back as in May; some were admitted to hospital this October.
However, doctors' fears were not confirmed, says Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Medical Officer Ihar Hayeuski. "We identified five such citizens at the Minsk Internatioal Airport and one in Vitsebsk. They were students from Nigeria," Hayeuski was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
The students had high temperature that was spotted by special equipment at the airport. They were isolated and hospitalized "in a special medical unit." All of their tests results proved negative. Euroradio reported earlier two students from Nigeria are still in a Minsk hospital for infectious diseases.
According to Ihar Hayeuski, despite the low probability of Ebola getting into our country, Belarus conducts workshops to counteract the virus.
4,000 people have already died from Ebola worldwide, more than 8,000 are infected, most of them in West Africa. The Ebola virus has already reached Europe and the United States, there are casualties. An experimental vaccine was developed in the United States, with tts testing taking place in Mali. The disease is transmitted via biological fluids. Scientists suspect that the transfer also occurs through touch.
Ebola is characterized by a sharp increase in body temperature, general weakness of the body, muscle pain, headache, sore throat. Often this condition is accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea, abnormal liver function, kidney, and sometimes internal and/or external bleeding. The mortality rate is up to 90%.
