UCP: Belarus ambassador not allowed to speak at Euronest meeting
Minsk’s envoy was refused to take part in the discussion on the situation in Belarus at the Euronest meeting in Brussels.
The website of the United Civil Party has reported the fact. A meeting of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly working group on Belarus was held in Brussels on April 1. Belarusian opposition leaders took part in the discussion. Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei was also invited. However, the Minister sent the Belarusian Ambassador to the meeting, the UCP reports.
The chairperson, MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski claimed: “We did not invite the Ambassador. That is why he was refused the right to participate in the discussion.”
“The future of the Eastern Partnership is up in the air now because we can see that Russia has imposed a military veto on the project,” the Polish MP added.
The Euronest is the parliamentary component of the Eastern Partnership programme. It consists of members of the European Parliament and Parliaments of its member states. The official Belarusian delegation was not invited to the Euronest meeting.
