Ukraine opposition leaders condemn protesters shootings

On Wednesday, January 22,  opposition parties Fatherland, UDAR and Freedom reacted to the latest developments in Ukraine and issued a joint statement. The statement says the murder of peaceful protestors is the consequence of impunity and the escalation of terror.

The opposition leaders have blamed Interior Minister Zakharachenko for the deaths of protesters and demanded his resignation. They also demand an immediate withdrawal of riot police and internal troops and "provocator brigades" from Kiev. This could "prevent the conflict from escalating into a lethal phase," says the statement.

The opposition also blames president Victor Yanukovich who has for two week ignored the demands of peaceful protesters.

As of writing, at least two people are reported to have died in Hrushevskiy street on January 21-22. Local reports also suggest that the third person was killed by a shot in the heart. the forth death is yet to be confirmed.
