Ukrainian President: Russia blackmails Ukraine
Kiev cannot sign an association agreement with the EU due to Russia’s economic pressure and blackmail.
Victor Yanukovich is said to have told it to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė by phone. The Lithuanian President’s foreign affairs adviser announced it, ru.delfi.lt reports.
Yanukovich mentioned the threat to limit the import of goods from Eastern Ukraine. According to Kiev’s calculations, it would result in the loss of billions. Ukraine would not be able to survive the economic pressure and blackmail, the adviser noted.
Ukraine stopped the preparation for an association and free trade agreement with the EU, the government announced on November 21. It had to be signed at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius next week.
