US extends sanctions against Lukashenka, his officials

The decision by Barack Obama has appeared on the White House official website.

It is noted that the actions of the Belarusian authorities undermine the development of democratic institutions in Belarus.

The U.S. administration has stressed that the authorities of our country continued pressure on the political opposition, the civil society and independent media. They recall the elections for the House of Representatives on September 23, 2012, which "did not meet the international standards."

In 2006, the United States imposed visa and financial restrictions on ten people: Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Assistant to the President Viktar Lukashenka, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidzya Yarmoshyna, then Minister of Justice Viktar Halavanau, then Assistant to the President for Special Affairs Viktar Sheiman, then head of the SWAT Dzmitry Paulychenka, then KGB chairman Stsyapan Sukharenka, then chairman of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company Alyaksandr Zimouski, former Interior Minister Uladzimir Navumau, and Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Natallia Pyatkevich. American companies are prohibited to enter into contracts with these people.

The United States have recently lifted its sanctions against arms dealer Beltechexport and the optical sights maker BelOMO.
