US, EU to act as ‘single front’ against Russia's actions in Ukraine

The united Europe is going to respond to the intervention of Russian troops into Ukraine this way. All Russian state companies may be forbidden to borrow or use outside funds in the EU market. It means that the access to the world financial markets will be limited. At the same time Brussels does not want to deprive Moscow of the access to the international payment system SWIFT at the moment (such a step is considered to be ‘too radical’), liga.net notes.

It has also been suggested to ban the export of dual use items to Russia (the ones that can be used both for civilian and military purposes), to expand the ban on energy technology supplies and to forbid Russia to take part in cultural, economic and sports events.

"We should be firm. The situation is aggravating. This is aggression and the sanctions are part of our political strategy,” new EU foreign chief Frederica Magerini said.

The EU may make the decision to impose new sanctions on Friday, September 5. The sanctions may be coordinated with the USA, Canada and Japan.

The USA is ready to impose new sanctions but the country does not want to be ahead of its European allies and wants to form ‘a single front’ with them, BBC reports.
