Volha Karatch: No presidency bid in 2015
The Nash Dom civil campaign leader says she will not run for Belarus presidency describing the process as 'just technical' but warns about Russia.
The Nash Dom (Our Home) civil campaign has made an official statement on the 2015 presidential elections. Earlier, the leader of the campaign, Volha Karach expressed her intention to run for presidency. Now the campaign representatives say they will neither participate in the presidential campaign nor nominate their candidate for it.
The statement of Nash Dom states that "structure nominating its candidate for the presidential election of 2015, must guarantee the Belarusian people that peoples' lives will not deteriorate after Alyaksandr Lukashenka leaves". It means that "there will be no war (civil or otherwise), mass unemployment and a price collapse". Nash Dom believes that it cannot give such guarantees to the citizens of Belarus.
In addition, the campaign representatives said it had not had time to become a powerful force, and without it they shouldn't expect to win the election. "Other potential outcomes of the participation in elections (promotion of the organization and leadership, access to new sponsors, etc.) are of no interest to Nash Dom," said the statement.
