Maria Maksakova, the widow of former Russian MP Denis Voronenkov who fled to Ukraine and was murdered on March 23 in Kyiv, told ZIK television channel that her husband's driver had been sneaked from Belarus one week before the killing. Voronenkov was considered to be the main witness in the investigation of Russian agression in Ukraine.
According to Maksakova, the driver was stopped when he was entering the southern Belarusian city of Homiel. He was detained by Russian Federal Security (FSB) agents and forcefully taken to the Bryansk region of Russia. The driver was interrogated for 12 hours but later released and he returned to Ukraine, according to Maksakova.
Maria Maksakova appealed to Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka asking to deal with this issue. She promised to share information if needed. “Is anybody in Belarus going to investigate what is happening in their country?" she asked when on the television show.
