The disrtrict court in the town of Lahojsk on Friday ruled to award a BYN980 ($465) fine to Young Front leader Dzianis Urbanovich for the 29 October action titled "The Night of Executed Poets."
The court ruling reads that Urbanovich took an active part in the unauthorized picket "aiming to express publicly his attitude towards the operation of the Poyedem Poyedim restaurant and political repressions in the 1930-40s whereby he demonstratively was striking a bell."
The court hearing was held in absentia.
The Night of Executed Poets is a memorial event dedicated to the 'black date' in the history of Belarus. Over 100 Belarusian intellectuals - writers, scholars and state figures - were executed by shooting in Kurapaty on the night of 30 October 1937. On 29 October 2018, activists and the general public recited the poems of the executed poets in Kurapaty.
