Activist who called BSU rector on the carpet gets fined for Br4.5 million
Pavel Syarhei, participant of the student’s protest action of December 2, stood his first trial in Minsk Maskouski District Court. BSU students protested against having to pay for retaking examinations at that action.
The trial started at 4 p.m. on December 22, the human rights website Viasna reports. Judge Tatstsyana Matyl did not allow the lawyer to speak. He wanted to add some case papers but the judge decided that they were insignificant.
Pavel Syarhei was not shown any case papers at all. The judge made one of the present leave because the person had changed seats. Another person was made to leave for laughing at a witness’ words.
Pavel Syarhei pled not guilty. Nevertheless, the judge returned him guilty and fined the student for Br4.5 million roubles (25 base amounts) on the morning of December 23.
Reports for participation in the students’ action were also drawn up against Yauhen Amyalkou and Hleb Vaikul. The information presented by Maxim Vinyarski and Pavel Vinahradau was added to the reports that had not been finished on the spot.
