'Opposition MP' Alena Anisim announces bid for Belarus presidency

MP Alena Anisim will run for Belarusian presidency at the upcoming elections. She announced her plan today in the Euroradio studio.

"I am forced to react while state bodies are not reacting to Belarus haters," Anisim said.

Alena Anisim is the chairwoman of the Belarusian Language Society. Along with Hanna Kanapatskaya, she represents civil society in the House of Representatives.

The list of other politicians who have already announced their presidency ambitions includes Liberal Democratic Party deputy head Aleh Haidukevich and one of the Belarusian National Congress leaders Mikalai Statkevich. United Civil Party, Belarusian Christian Democracy and the Movement for Freedom are also expected to nominate their candidates. Speak the Truth and Belarusian Popular Front Party also announced their plans for presidency earlier. Former MP Siarhei Skrabets may also run.

The presidential election in Belarus will take place either in late 2019 or in 2020.
