"When people get convicted, freedom gets convicted." This is how Natallia Pinchuk commented for Euroradio on the sentence against her husband and other "Viasna" human rights defenders. On March 3, Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski was sentenced to 10 years in prison, Valiantsin Stefanovich to 9 years, and Uladzimir Labkovich to 7 years. Dzmitry Salauiou was sentenced in absentia to 8 years.

"Instead of the maximum 12 years of imprisonment - 10. This is absolutely not the loyalty of the authorities, this is a game for the public," says Natallia Pinchuk. "The announced sentence was cruel. It is not clear what was the reason for its cruelty, because it is obvious that even with those far-fetched articles, according to which they were accused, and 280 volumes of the case were collected, they didn't manage to prove anything. Not a single argument was heard in favor of the prosecutor, although representatives of the prosecutor's office spoke in court.
