Minsk Central District Court has sentenced BCD activist Pavel Prakapovich to an administrative arrest. The trial was held on August 1 but the activist was away at that moment. The sentence was pronounced in his absence, the human rights website Viasna reports.
Prakapovich was accused of taking part in the protest action organized in Minsk on July 7. About 15 people came to Kastrychnitskaya Square to protest against Belarus-Russia joint military exercise West-2017 and against the military alliance with Russia. They also wanted to support Belarusians persecuted for political reasons.
Prakapovich has been sentenced to 10 days of arrest for participation in an unauthorized protest action.
He will not be jailed now, the activist thinks. The same has happened to other activists – Leanid Kulakou and Volha Nikalaichyk. They will be jailed whenever the authorities wish to isolate them in the future, he believes.
