Belarus takes active part in academic exchanges with Germany
Belarus is an active partner in academic exchanges with Germany, Holger Finken, the head of Belarus and Russia department at the German Service for Academic Exchanges (DAAD), said during the alumni conference on June 7 in Minsk. 3500 Belarusians have received scholarships in the framework of the program since 1992. Finken also noted a growth in the number of people, willing to be enrolled with summer schools at German universities. Finken said that these courses are the first step for the "DAAD career": post-graduate or research opportunities in Germany. Talking to the alumni, German ambassador in Minsk Gebhart Weiss stressed that the Belarusians who studied abroad are "a significant asset for the country". The diplomat expressed hope that academic exchange would be expanded. Most of the participants represent Minsk. Tomas Pral, the head of DAAD office in Moscow, stressed that the number of approved scholarships for Belarusians is "not a gift but a demonstration of a high level of education of Belarusians", reports Belapan
