Colorado flooding: 5 dead, 600 missing
The US state of Colorado is continuing a large-scale rescue operation after severe flooding.
Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate from affected communities. The National Guard used military equipment for the people's evacuation. A spokesman for Boulder County said that 200 people were still unaccounted for, but said that some of them may simply be out of contact, safe.
In the meantime, the authorities of the affected districts warn that the number of victims can still grow. Although the flooding ceases, meteorologists forecast more heave rains and storms.
Heavy rains caused serious severe damage to property and evacuation of over 2,5 thousand people. The telephone communication was damaged, cell phones didn't work in many areas due to broken cell-towers. About 30 bridges and several hundred kilometers of roads were marred.
More than 38 cm of downfall were reported in Colorado last week, which is nearly the half of the average annual level.
U.S. President Barack Obama announced an emergency situation in the flooded areas the day before, reports ВВС.
