Economist Siarhej Balykin's apartment searched this night

Law-enforcement agencies claim some of his posts at internet forums, as well as his psychological portrait, give grounds to suspect he might have some information about the explosion in Minsk on July 4, 2008. Law enforcement agencies searched the Minsk apartment of the Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Association, the lawyer, economist and journalist Siarhej Balykin in the night. They confiscated his laptop, all the means of mobile communication, a USB-drive and a camera memory card, according to BelaPAN.

Policemen and KGB representatives acted in accordance with the resolution, signed by an investigator and with no sanction of a public prosecutor. They admitted they were looking for explosives, said Balykin. According to him, law-enforcement agencies claimed some of his posts at internet forums, as well as his psychological portrait, gave grounds to suspect he might have some information about the explosion in Minsk on July 4, 2008, or even be "one of the executors" (Balykin states he was in Paris on the day of that accident).

After the search, they kept Siarhej Balykin in the Pershamaiski district department of internal affirs for three hours. The policemen talked to him not only about the explosion in Minsk, but also about his activity as a journalist, foreign trips. Balykin refused to give fingerprints. His procedural status has not been defined.
