Poland slaps sanctions on Belarusian salt producer
Salt
Poland has excluded products of Mozyrsalt from the list of state purchases, writes the media outlet "Belarusians and Market". This decision was taken by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland, Tomasz Siemoniak.
Poland explains the decision by the fact that Mozyrsalt is part of the Belarusian state concern Belgospishcheprom. This organization is under the authority of the Belarusian Council of Ministers.
"Subjecting Mozyrsalt to sanctions will reduce the company's export opportunities and thus affect the amount of funds transferred to the Belarusian budget," the justification for the decision reads.
In 2021, Belarus sold 22 million euros worth of salt on the European market. Of these, 5 million euros worth of product was brought to Poland. In 2022, export volumes fell by half - salt was sold in the amount of 10 million euros.
At the end of 2023, the idea of imposing sanctions on Belarusian salt producers emerged. The proposal came from the non-profit organization "Polish Salt". Minister Siemoniak supported the idea amid the escalation of the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border.
