Four Belarusians went on hunger strike in sympathy with captive Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko on February 15. They are members of the unregistered Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Freedom).
Syarhei Skrabets, his younger brother Alyaksandr, Valery Bykau and Andrei Atsreika will be on hunger strike until the end of February, the party leader Syarhei Skrabets told Radio Liberty.
"We want to demonstrate our support of the Ukrainian people bravely struggling with the Russian aggression,” Skrabets announced.
The all-Europe action of solidarity with the Ukrainian pilot is called ‘Release Nadezhda Savchenko – we are starving’. It has been initiated by a group of PACE members.
The Ukrainian pilot imprisoned in Russia went on a hunger strike on December 18. The Ukrainian is planning to refuse from water after the verdict is pronounced.
