The western Belarusian city of Hrodna has recently seen some pro-democracy changes after tens of thousands attended street protests following the fraudulent August 9 presidential elections. The local state-run TV channels do not label the rally as 'an unauthorized event". Instead, they describe it as "people's forum.'

The local authorities have also met some of protesters' demands like the establishment of 'Hrodna's Civic Accords Council' and more venues were authorized to stage rallies.
