Lukashenka grills government over missed Q1 economic targets
Aliaksandr Lukashenka on April 18 heard out a report by government and Central Bank top officials on the country's development in Q1 2016 and the measures to raise the effeciency of economy.
"I have the matrix of tasks for the entire power vertical on my table. Unfulfilled tasks are marked with red ink. Hit forecast targets are marked with blue ink. There is too much red color in the matrix. I want to listen to your explanations,” the President said. “Everyone should have a plan of action for 2016. Therefore, tell me about the progress in the fulfillment of this plan in Q1. If you failed to do something, tell me why,” he said.
The head of state also remarked that there is a tradition to blame the government and governors for certain problems. At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko believes that top-ranking officials having broad authorities and a high status should also take part of the responsibility. In this context, the President stressed that in case there is no positive dynamics and results he will make new personnel decisions. "“This pertains to everybody. In Q2 you should step up efforts to show corresponding results. If you do not do it, other people will come and take charge. Therefore, join efforts and act. If someone does not cope with the tasks, put forward corresponding proposals. They will not shelter themselves behind other people,” the Belarusian leader is quoted by BELTA as saying.
Lukashenka also described President's Administration as the political headquarters, which oversees the work of various state organizations and agencies.
The strategy of Belarus' development will be discussed in the State of the Nation Address and during the All-Belarus' People's Congress.
