Lukashenka proposes amnesty ahead of Victory Day celebrations
The Belarus leader has proposed lawmakers to announce an amnesty in connection with 65 years since the victory in the World War II. According to the estimates of the Interior Ministry, nearly 2230 people could be released from closed prisons and nearly 900 people from light-security facilities. 9300 convicts more could see their prison terms reduced.
The previous amnesty took place in Belarus in 2009. It was timed with 65 years since Belarus was liberated from the Nazi invaders.
