Lukashenka tells Ukraine not to rush out of CIS grouping
President Lukashenka today met the heads of government from CIS member states who gathered for the summit in Minsk.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka has reacted to Kiev’s intention to secede from the Commonwealth of Independent States. “Take your time before leaving this adequate cooperation platform. We speak the same language and think the same way and you cannot throw away the decades we spend together,” Lukashenka said.
It is ‘much more difficult to return [to the CIS]: you need to save face and there may be other problems’, the Belarusian President noted.
The CIS is going through a difficult period now, Alyaksandr Lukashenka noted. However, Belarus thinks that the interstate organization is needed and important. “Sometimes we lack coordination in taking serious decisions,” Lukashenka said. The problem needs to be solved, he added.
