Officials block plans by legends Skardino, Herasimenia to launch sport radio

The President’s Administration has not allowed ex-biathlete and Olympic champion Nadezhda Skardino and swimmer and two-time vice Olympic champion Aliaksandra Herasimenia to launch a sports-focused radio station Sport FM. The project is ‘inexpedient’ as there is a sufficient number of radio stations in Belarus, officials wrote in a letter. It was an unexpected blow, Skardino told on a STV show.
"We received a reply from the President’s Administration on December 31," Nadezhda Skardino said. "It was a refusal. The Ministry of Information referred us to the President Administration because they could not do it without their permission."
Officials expressed different opinions but the project has not received their endorsement, Skardino said.
STV television channel later removed the video with the interview with Skardino from YouTube.
