One-person picket in support of Ales Byalyatski not allowed in Brest
Brest city hall did not allow local HR defender Uladzimir Vyalichkin to hold the action.
In their response, the officials refer to violations of the law "On Mass Events", in particular, to the absence of agreements with the state services. The human rights defender did not coordinate his actions with the police, the doctors and the communal services as he thought there will be no need for them, taking into consideration that there will be just one picketer.
Uladzimir Vyalichkin: "The picket is held by just one person - me. I paid the taxes, so, all these services are actually pre-paid by me as a citizen. I think that these demands set in the law "On Mass Events" are too strict and should not cover one-person pickets."
The Brest HR defender considers this decision illegal and is going to appeal against it in the higher instances.
The one-person picket was aimed to coincide with the second anniversary of Ales Byalyatski's arrest on August 4.
