On 31 August, opposition politician Mikalai Statkevich walked out of a jail in Minsk after serving five days of administrative arrest for an offence he had committed back in March. It was not ruled out that he would stay in jail for 15 more days for the protest action that took place in the Belarusian capital city on 3 July. This way, he would miss the street protest scheduled on 8 September.
However, Statkevich's wife Maryna Adamovich told Radio Svaboda that on 7 September a court in Minsk will consider his appeal against the 15- day jail punishment awarded earlier.
