Russia refuses from informal UN Crimea meeting
Russian diplomats have called the meeting a ‘counterproductive and provocative’ event.
Lithuania suggested conducting an informal meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to Crimea. However, Russia refused to take part in it, RBK reports. Russia called the meeting ‘counterproductive and provocative’ and claimed that it was not part of the UN Security Council’s business.
“Some other states’ delegations” will not take part in such a meeting either, Russian diplomats claimed. The unofficial Crimea meeting is appointed for today’s evening. Ukrainian VR member and ex-leader of the Majlis of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev has been invited there. It will be a closed meeting.
Moscow will not return to the discussion of the Crimean issue in the UN Security Council, Russia’s permanent representative in the UN Vitali Churkin said at the begging of March.
