Russian special ops officer behind Sloviansk gunmen
Ukraine's security service SBU says a Russian citizen is in charge of armed gunmen that have seized the town of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine.
The man is a Russian citizen, GRU officer of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Strelkov, UNIAN refers to the SBU press centre.
His voice was recorded during the wiretapping of his conversation with a Moscow curator. The audio was made public on April 14. Strelkov was describing the terror in Sloviansk and the armed attack on a Ukrainian police car.
The diversionists detained by SBU earlier said that Strelkov had set the goal of seizing administrative buildings in Kharkiv for them.
SBU also reported that Strelkov arrived in Crimea at the beginning of March and coordinated the seizure of Ukrainian military units, local administrations and abductions of soldiers and civil activists there.
