Russia's envoy agrees with Lukashenka: No need for Russian base

Russian Ambassador in Minsk Mikhail Babich has commented for journalists President Lukashenka's statetement that there is no need for a Russian military base in Belarus. According to the Russian envoy, the Russian and Belarus armed forces have all necessary capabilities to repel any aggression, and no additional steps are required, reports TASS.
Mr Babich also noted that if the situation changes, the heads of the two states will find a solution "and we have such possibilities."
The Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier refused to comment Belarus President's statement, stressing he was not aware of "the context in which this statement was made."
Today, on 6 November, Aliaksandr Lukashenka met with representatives of US think tanks and told them the problem of a Russian military base in Belarus was artificial. "We are not hosting this base not because we want to show you or someone else that we are sovereign and independent. We are not having it deployed simply because we do not need it here," Mr Lukashenka said.
