Russification of road signs starts in Mahilyou (photo)
All the road signs have been changed to Russian after the repairs of Minsk Highway in Mahilyou. Even the names of Belarusian writers Alyaksei Pysin and Arkadz Kulyashou as well as painter Vitold Byalynitski-Birulya are writtern in Russian.
The first signs of russification appeared in Mahilyou a few years ago when the road sign ‘Mahilyou’ was changed to the Russian variant ‘Mogilyov’. People lodged a lot of complaints but officials ignored them. The road sign is still there.
The installation of Russian road signs coincides with the decision of Mahilyou City Executive Committee to write the names of bus stops in Belarusian.
