Will the old building of National Library be devoid of status of historic monument?
The building that used to host the National Library opposite the President’s Administration may be demolished. It was built in 1931 and it survived in the war, but it may disappear in peacetime. The alarm was given by the Belarusian association of protection of monuments. That is what its head Anton Astapovich said in an interview with ERB:
“Our sources in the “Minskpraekt” institute reported that the former building of the National Library and the neighbouring building of school #4 were going to be demolished. Both buildings are historic and cultural monuments added on the state list.
Offices of all kinds including offices for the needs of the President’s Administration will probably be built there. I have not managed to get any official confirmation of the information”.
Anton Astapovіch says that attempts to devoid the buildings of the status of historic and cultural monuments are being made now so that it would be no problem demolishing them afterwards.
