Russian oligarch Kerimov put on wanted list in Belarus
The Belarusian investigatory committee issues a warrant for Suleiman Kerimov, who has been officially charged with power abuse.
The key shareholder of Uralkali has been put on the wanted list, also by the Interpol. Suleiman Kerimov's actions are qualified as the organization of authority abuse and professional authorizations. The maximum punishment is up to 10 years in prison with property confiscation.
Besides, the investigatory authorities of Belarus point out that Kerimov caused damage not only to Belarus, but to Russia as well. Therefore, the Belarusian side is preparing an appeal to the Prosecutor General of Russia, BELTA reports.
Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner was detained on August 26 in the Minsk international airport after meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich. The Investigatory Committee of Belarus stated that the Uralkali head caused damage to the national interests of Belarus. Baumgertner is charged with power abuse. He faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with property confiscation. The Investigatory Committee said the damage was estimated at $100 million. Baumgertner is currently being held in custody in the notorious KGB prison in Minsk.
