Three examples of senator Kerimov's illegal activities revealed in Minsk
The Belarusian Investigatory Committee says Russian tycoon Suleiman Kerimov is involved in three episodes of wrongdoing.
The mentioned three episodes are connected with both Suleiman Kerimov, the main shareholder of Uralkali, and the other suspects. Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner is currently being held in a KGB prison in Belarus.
The Investigatory Committee does not rule out that "the sum of Belarus’ losses caused by the suspects may be higher." It "depends on the evidence presented in the case papers" and on "the results of the financial and economic audit of the activities of the Belarusian Potash Company," Interfax-West reports. The previously announced sum of losses caused by the administration of Uralkali was about $100 million.
Interpol issued a wanted notice for Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov on September 2. The organization satisfied the appeal of the Belarusian police. The Belarusian Investigation Committee accused the main shareholder of Uralkali of power abuse. Kerimov is facing up to 10 years of imprisonment and confiscation of property.
Being a Russian senator, Kerimov enjoys immunity. However, Belarus is hoping to get help from the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office.
Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner was detained in Minsk after meeting Belarusian Prime Minister Mihail Myasnikovich on Monday, August 26. The Uralkali head caused damage to Belarus' national interests, the Investigatory Committee said. Baumgertner is charged with power abuse and is being held in a KGB prison.
