Belarusian Vera Lapko wins junior Australian Open
The 17-year-old Belarusian Vera Lapko has won the junior Australian Open. In the final, she defeated Tereza Mihalikova from Slovakia - 6:3, 6:4. This is Lapko's first victory at the junior "Grand Slam" competition.
Interestingly, Mihalikova is Lapko's partner in doubles' competitions.
The Pressball notes that in 2005 it was Viktoria Azaranka who won the title. The victory in the junior Australian Open has been the first step of many other famous future tennis players.
