Brest police follow local ideologists’ example and speak Belarusian one day a week
ERB has found out that Brest police have followed the example of employees of Brest Executive Committee Department of Ideology and speak Belarusian one day a week too. Employees of the Region Executive Committee have informed ERB that they spoke Belarusian on November 5 and another day of Belarusian language will soon be announced. A former policeman Pavel Yakubau gave an interview to ERB and recalled that the belarusianization of the 1990s had been started in the police.
“When the belarusianization of the 1990s started, they began with the police. We had to interrogate criminals in Belarusian, draw up protocols and translate them into Russian for them because people of the social strata did not understand their mother tongue”.
Let us remind you that the chief ideologist of Brest Region introduced “a day of the Belarusian language” in his department several months ago. All officials have to speak Belarusian one day a week. Russian-Belarusian dictionaries containing expressions frequently used by officials were prepared for them.
