Husband and wife sent to jail for fireworks on New Year's Eve

In Minsk, husband and wife Mikalai and Alena Hayeuski were imprisoned for the New Year's Eve fireworks. According to human rights activists, the police report says that they were involved in "unauthorized picketing by the firing of pyrotechnic products (fireworks)". In court, the police officer stated that the fireworks were in WRW colors.

The Hayeuski's launched fireworks in the yard at exactly 11:34 p.m. on December 31. But they were watched by a policeman, who detained them a minute later (according to the protocol, at 23:35). The trial was held on January 3, 2022; it has only emerged now. Minsk residents did not plead guilty, as they had not held a picket. The man explained that he had launched the salute solely "for personal reasons". In 2020, he was under administrative arrest under "people's" Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code. According to him, neither he nor his wife shouted any slogans. But the court believed the policeman who "witnessed" that there were "provocative slogans".

The judge of Partyzanski Borough Court Mikhail Makarevich sentenced Mikalai Hayeuski to 15 days of administrative arrest and his wife to 13 days of arrest.
