She may become the first female presidential candidate in Belarus.
CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna has published a video appeal on the official website vybory2015.by.
Five initiative groups have managed to collect at least 100 thousand signatures, the official reported. Alyaksandr Lukashenka collected 1 million 761 thousand signatures, head of the Belarusian Patriotic Party and Cossack chieftain Mikalai Ulahovich – almost 160 thousands, head of the Liberal-Democratic Party Syarhei Haidukevich – over 140 thousands, economist Victar Tsyareshchanka – 130 thousands and activist of the Tell the Truth campaign Tatstsyana Karatkevich – 107 thousands.
The commission will be verifying the signatures until September 10.
The CEC chairperson is very happy about Tatstsyana Karatkevich’s success, she said in the appeal. “I am very happy about Ms. Karatkevich’s success because she is the first possible female candidate in the history of Belarus. I wish success to this candidate. She is a new turning point in the history of presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus because she is a woman.”
Yarmoshyna also thanked unemployed Zhanna Ramanouskaya who had collected only 780 signatures.
The other candidates did not want or could not present their signatures to territorial election committees, the CEC chairperson said. Head of the United Civil Party Anatol Laybedzka and leader of the Belarusian Party of the left Fair World Syarhei Kalyakin also participated in the election campaign. Both of them claimed that they had not managed to collect 100 thousand signatures.
