Belarus may chair Eurasian Economic Union
Russian president's aide Yuri Ushakov says Belarus can get the first chairmanship at Eurasian Economic Union, effective from January 1, 2015.
Belarus may lead the Eurasian Economic Union. The issue of the country-chairman will be decided at tomorrow's meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, and our country has the greatest chance. This was announced by Russian presidential aide, Yury Ushakov, on December 22.
He said that appointment of the chairman should be carried out "in the Russian alphabetical order". And if it is agreed upon at the meeting, the first chair "should go to Belarus", RIA Novosti reports.
The Eurasian Economic Union will take effect on 1 January 2015. It is created on the basis of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.
