Handball: Belarus star Siarhei Rutenka finishes career
Belarus' most famous handballer Siarhei Rutenka has announced the end of his sporting career. The 35-year-old former Belarus and Barcelona international told a news conference in Minsk he had about a dozen options to continue his career but eventually decided to say good bye to professional sport.
Rutenka played for Arkatron Minsk before moving to Slovenia where he obtained citizenship. The Belarusian later moved to Barcelona to become the world's most expensive handballer - he was signed for the record 1.2 million euros. In 2008, Rutenka obtained Spanish citizenship. Shortly after, the handballer expressed a wish to play for Belarus national team and was allowed to do so in the fall of 2010 playing as Belarus captain.
